Sao Tomé, « Chocolate Island »

Sao Tomé and Principe Island, the second-smallest African country, is often called "Island in the middle of the world"as well as "Chocolate Island"...
Situated near the Gabon coast, Sao Tomé and Principe Island was the lead producer of cacao in the world in 1915. The Island was discovered on Saint Thomas'Day (thus named Sao Tomé) by Pedro Escobar in 1470. This Island offers luxurious vegetation and is crossed by several rivers, forests and golden beaches...

Sao Tome and Principe Island are situated right on the Equator. It was the first place to which cacao trees were brought from Brazil as decorative plants in 1822. The location of the Island on the Equator, the fertility of the volcanic ground, and the perfect balance of temperatures, humidity, and forests of shade, explain the rapid spread of these tropical plants native to Mexico.
